19 Remember my affliction and roaming, the wormwood and the gall. 20 My soul still remembers and sinks within me. 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. Through the Lord's mercies, we are not consumed because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness. 24 "The Lord is my portion," says my soul. "Therefore I hope in Him!" (Lamentations 3:19-24 NJKV)
How many of you are like me? You see, I can remember my affliction and my roaming from God. I can remember the wormwood and the gall – the bitterness. Yes, my soul still remembers and sinks and is sometimes bowed low within me.
Isn’t it something how stuff can just continue to come back up?
Verse 21 – “This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope.”
Hope? Hope! How can you recall your affliction and roaming and still have hope? Because it’s…
Verse 22 – “…through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed because His compassions fail not.”
You know what someone told me one day? She was referring to a friend who tries to do right, but somehow just kept fouling up; keeps falling short of the mark. She said, “One day, the Lord’s mercies are going to give out.” Huh-uh, not according to this scripture! It’s because of the Lord’s mercies (not ours!) that we are not consumed. His compassions (not ours!) fail not. AND, listen to this…
Verse 23, “they (His mercies and compassions) are new every morning.”
Great is His faithfulness! You get another chance! My friend, don’t let anybody tell you that you have messed up too bad or that God is not going to forgive you for “that.” Don’t think of your past and get discouraged. It’s easy though, isn’t? I have. I do.
Verse 24 – “’But the Lord is my portion’, says my soul. ‘Therefore, I hope in Him!’”
God loves you. He really, really loves you. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him – to those that seek Him. So it’s good that you should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Why? Because his compassions don’t fail. You’ll get a new set tomorrow!
Will your enemies open their mouths against you? Yup, they will.
Will it sometimes be without cause? Yup, sure will.
Will it sometime be true what they say? Yup, probably.
But listen to more of Lamentations, chapter 3!
Verse 55 & 57 – “I called on your name, O Lord, from the lowest pit. You drew near on the day I called on You, and said, ‘Do not fear!’”
Close your eyes and put your hand on your heart. Say, “______ (insert your name), do not fear!” Repeat that. Be quiet and meditate on it.
There’s not anything you’ve done or haven’t done that will save you. It’s because of the Lord’s mercies and He will not fail you. HE WILL NOT FAIL YOU!
